About the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon

Founded in 1988, the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon (YSSO) organization offers training and performance opportunities to young instrumental musicians and presents high-quality performances of standard repertoire, concerti, contemporary, and commissioned music, film scores, musical theater and opera literature, arrangements, chamber music, and orchestral/choral works in professional venues and community settings. The organization marks thirty-six seasons of performances in 2023-2024.

The YSSO organization includes two full orchestras, Youth Symphony (advanced) and Youth Orchestra (intermediate/preparatory). The two orchestras offer performance levels for both accomplished and aspiring orchestral musicians. Each season, the YSSO presents three multi-performance concert series, as well as a chamber music series or other special concerts, a concerto competition for advanced-level Youth Symphony musicians, and multiple community outreach concerts.

The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon is nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization guided by a volunteer governing board. The professional staff includes the music director & conductor, executive director, executive assistant, stage manager, orchestra assistant, and logistics assistant(s). Volunteers assist with special events, rehearsals, and concerts.
