Spring 2006 Concert
The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s Spring 2006 Concert
Series concluded with a standing ovation at the YSSO’s Craterian
Ginger Rogers Theater performance on May 21, 2006. The three
ensembles of the YSSO – Youth Strings, Youth Orchestra and
Youth Symphony – also performed in Grants Pass on Friday,
May 19 at the Grants Pass High School Performing Arts Center and
in Ashland on Saturday, May 20 at the Music Recital Hall at Southern
Oregon University.
Violinist Lucy Claire Curran, 2006 Youth Symphony
Concerto Competition Winner, was featured in a performance of the
first movement of Édouard
Lalo’s Symphonie Espagñole. An Ashland High
School senior, Ms. Curran is a student of Faina Podolnaya. Other
works on the concert program included Edward Elgar’s Enigma
Variations, the overture to Donna Diana by Emile von Reznicek,
the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony
No. 5, Henry Purcell’s Rondo and other works.
YSSO Music Director and Conductor Cynthia
Hutton, family members, friends and the members of the audience
honored the twenty-seven graduating seniors for their dedication
and participation in the YSSO at the final concert of the 2005-2006
season.
The YSSO board, staff and musicians would
like to thank the individuals, families, businesses, corporations
and foundations that provided financial support for operations
and concerts this year. The
organization could not continue to offer music education and training
or concerts for the public without the help and assistance of the
membership, advertisers, concert sponsors, donors and foundations. Membership
contributions are accepted throughout the year and the 2005-2006
Membership Drive will continue through the end of June 2006. More

Plans are underway for the YSSO’s 19th season
of concerts throughout the Rogue Valley. The dates, times
and locations of the Fall 2006, Winter 2007 and Spring 2007 Concert
Series performances will be announced in August. Please watch

information and all pertinent forms and schedules for 2006-2007
will also be available online.
